3 Basic Things to Consider Before Settling into Your Bridal Make Up

Every woman dreams of a beautiful wedding and that includes the perfect bridal make up. It is true that every detail is given a certain amount of significance to ensure that this kind of monumental event is perfect. Also, the fact that one will take more than a dozen of candid pictures before, after and during the ceremony is enough for every bride to worry. Nobody wants to look like an overdone drag queen or a pale ghost with her bridal make up!

There are a few things you have to consider personally when deciding on one’s bridal make up. Here are some basic things that you might want to think about before choosing your color palette and style.

#1 Comfort

The first one of course is whether you are comfortable with your bridal make up or not. You have to know that there are a lot of great magazines that showcase cosmetics for special occasions. However, you must consider what works well not just with your skin tone and your motif but also with what makes you feel best all throughout the day.

You cannot have bridal make up that is dramatic or black smoky eye if you have never been used to wearing it. If you are not used to heavy tones you will definitely not feel comfortable looking “all made up.” For weddings, the classic and elegant almost natural “no make up look” is always best.

#2 Foundation

One of the most important components of bridal make up is the foundation. This serves as the base of your entire look. If you do not have the right foundation you might have an unusual skin color in the photos and in person. Your foundation should be clean and natural. Also, since it is used to even out skin tone and conceal minor skin blemishes, you have to have a foundation that blends seamlessly into your skin. Make sure that you match it with the skin tone on the jaw line.

#3 Long Lasting

A wedding celebration and ceremony lasts until the wee hours of the morning and you need to have bridal make up that can last as long as you do. You have to ensure that your make up will last all day and you can achieve this by wearing a primer and by blotting powder over your foundation. And, to avoid getting that greasy look in photographs, you have to pay attention to your T-zone or the forehead, nose and chin.

Bridal make up should be natural looking and not heavy on the face to avoid the feeling of discomfort and that “fake” look. Make up should accentuate and enhance your natural look instead of putting on a new face above yours. Just don’t forget to wear the most important cosmetic of all, your brilliant and happy smile!

What Clothes to buy that Suit your Body Shape.

Ever wonder what the best body shape is or what body shape you are? Your body type is the best body type! We are all different and learning how to dress for your body type and embracing your body shape is the first step towards looking and feeling better.

Everyone has different body types and it’s important to dress accordingly to flatter your body to look and feel better. There are a few general tips that can help you when picking your next outfits.

  • Thinner fabrics maximise your shape if they’re loose
  • Wear clothes that fit well, skin tight clothes are always risky! .
  • Avoid belts unless you have a slim waist.
  • Don’t clutter your look with too many accessories, we want to look good, not metal.

Get a good preview of how you will look in your outfit by spreading them out on the bed as if you’re dressing yourself. Be brutally honest and keep your body shape in mind with this step.
Experiment with jackets, belts and scarves to customize your look with what you like the most. You can also try using different accessories for different outfits. You can mix and match to suit your personality, this will make you so much more comfortable, while looking terrific.

Shoes depends more on height than body type. Obviously if you’re tall you don’t need to buy heels and if you’re short you can loosen up on the flats. Explore what you like, flip flops go with anything but don’t really add to style and honestly ladies, I need to put this out there, sneakers do not go with skirts unless you’re playing a womens sport.

To all you ladies with the smaller frames, generally I would just recommend that you keep their clothes slim and narrow. Don’t try the oversized t-shirt thing because it will just look too baggy and weigh you down. Fitted t-shirts are most favourable for you. You can also draw attention to your curves by wearing jackets and shirts that make your body look curvy. Wear patterened tops to add a little extra dimension too.

It is generally hard to find clothes that look great for tall women, the skirts are always just too short, same with sleeves on shirts. High waisted skirts are a good option. Also, match layers on top wide wide cut pants. Also, don’t be afraid to wear heels to beautify your look!

For all you top-heavy women, avoid big tops, they won’t hide your figure, they’ll just make your look bigger. Also, avoid halter neck tops or “boob-tube’ tops that will emphasize the size of your shoulders.

Hope I helped!

Hair and Makeup

Beauty Trend: Pony Up

The newest hair trend for girls this season is having your hair in a ponytail. In this article I will be giving you four different ways of doing your hair in a ponytail.

Tip 1: Fishtail Pony. You have this hairstyle for when you’re going on a date, to a wedding, or celebrating any kind of special occasion.

The Steps:
1. Blow dry and straighten helps to use a thickening or volume mousse.
2. Create a deep side part; set aside an inch or so of the front section.
3. Grab the rest of the hair a ponytail at the nape of your neck; wrap the loose section around the elastic and pin it in place.
4. Separate the ponytail into two sections; fishtail braid by taking a small piece from one section and crossing it over to the other, repeating several times until you achieve the desired look.

Tip 2: 60s Middle Part Pony. You will have this hairstyle when you are going to an interview or an appointment.

The Steps:
1. Use a fine-toothed comb to create a centre part. Brush and flat-iron.
2. Tie in a low ponytail.

Tip 3: Boho Pony, which you would use when you are hanging out with friends and feeling lazy.

The Steps:
1. No need to brush or straighten for this one. It’s all about looking natural, so gather your hair into a low ponytail, secure, and add a leather tie.
2. Pull out some strands from the side and tuck behind your ears.

Tip 4: Sleek, Teased Pony.

The Steps:
1. Blow dry and straighten.
2. Work a smoothing cream or serum into your hair, pull back into a high ponytail and secure.
3. Tease the pony with a fine-toothed comb, using a product in the previous step will help keep your pony from looking frizzy.

Now that we have covered the hair section you also need to look good using make up. One of the tips I will give you is a beauty of only 5 minutes, with these simple steps:

1. Line your eyes inside your lashes all the way around with dark, chocolate-y eyeliner.

2. Using an eyeliner brush, line outside your bottom eyelashes with a golden brown shadow, like the ‘Toast’ shade below.

3. On your upper lid, use a small eye shadow brush and colour in with a deeper brown up to the crease of your eyelids.

4. Using the lighter brown shadow, fill in up to your brow line.

5. Use a large face brush to swipe a peach-y bronzer on, from the centre of your cheeks up and out.

6. Finish with a deep, dark burgundy lipstick.

This will look good at any occasion with hairstyles and clothing.

Fashion – A Way of Life.

All over the years, fashion has been a topic that is important for both genres; Fashion is a way of life now in this generation. In winter, the fashion is Jumpers, Jeans and all warm clothes, in summer the fashion is Shorts, skirts, t-shirt and all the light clothes that are suitable to go to the beach or just to feel comfortable. Fashion is discriminated in different types of styles, which are used by teenagers, like the style’s preppy, Fashion Forward, Goth, Punk, Hobo, Formal, Hippie, Casual, Jock, Artsy and Emo…

Fashion is something people love to have so they become the popular ones or the best dressed people but the truth is you don’t have to have a special fashion to be popular,  it depends in the person and the personality they have because sometimes people get discriminated to what they wear and the style of their clothes for instance,  Emo people wear everything black, wear makeup and their hair is always in the front of their face, other people that wear jeans and light shirts will be like I don’t want to talk to her/him because  of their clothes and not because they tried interacting with them in a nice way. Hippies  have always had a strong creative side brought upon by Hemp based clothing and the marijuana they had. Hemp had been used since the Egyptian era and had been re-born in the hippie era due to its similarity with what they had smoked. Their clothes had been attempted to be banned and discriminated by authorities and people who did not understand their culture. The hemp plant being very similar to a marijuana plant creates a light fabric the is comfortable like cotton and strong like nylon. This fabric is not used often as it is associated with being “stoned” with is unfortunate as it could be one of the best ever.

3 Lucrative Career Paths for a Make Up Artist

In the past, people would never think that a make up artist can earn a pretty good salary. Most would never even consider it as a career. But, as fashion and beauty became more significant for women all over the world, any make up artist can have a salary that equals those of lawyers, marketing managers and corporate officers. However, it still depends on how one handles the opportunities and how one works in this chosen profession.

There are a lot of opportunities to earn big and be famous while being a make up artist. The fashion industry alone requires an army of stylists and cosmetic experts to continue inventing and reinventing the modern woman. If you are considering to build a successful and lucrative career as a make up artist, here are some ideas on where you might want to start.

#1 Spa and Salons

One of the most natural and common career choices for a make up artist is to work for a salon or a spa. There are a lot of women and even men who always make it a point to go to a salon to feel good at least twice a month. Working as an artist in a salon might sound like a small job but in reality, if you perform well and work hard you can end up setting up your own establishment in the future and earn more. Also, if you are good at your craft, you can work for salons with big names and companies like Sally Hansen or Bobby Brown.

#2 Direct Sales Cosmetic

A consumer cosmetic brand or direct sales cosmetic company hires make up artists as their representative because of the person’s knowledge on how to match appropriate color cosmetics for different skin tones. The knowledge of the artist when it comes to cosmetics will also be a good foundation to promote and sell products for brands such as Mary Kay orAvon. If you do your job well and learn the ropes to marketing, you will end up like the hundreds of millionaires in the industry.

#3 Show Business

The movie making industry, modelling agency and Magazine Empire are probably the most desirable fields where every make up artist wishes to end up working in. The prominence and popularity that one can achieve in any of these industries can catapult a person into a highly successful career. It is also the most fun and creative way that an artist can practice his or her craft. And, being chosen by a movie star or a top model to do each and every make-up opportunity for his or her career will ensure that you are set for life!

One just has to remember that being a make up artist takes a lot of hard work, knowledge and creativity. Since the fashion world is constantly changing, one has to keep abreast with what’s new and what’s not to continue being on the trend!

Make Up for Brides

It is the happiest moment in your life, he has finally asked you to marry him! Now all the hard work begins (dresses, flowers, venue, guest list, hairstyle and of course the makeup) to make this day perfect and also the best day in your life. In this article I will be giving a few tips on your makeup for the day. Bridal makeup needs to do a lot more than everyday makeup.  It needs to look stunning up close and photograph beautifully as well.  It must last all day and into the evening, often for twelve or more hours without the need for major touch-ups.  It needs to be water resistant for our humid climate; oil free for reduced shine, and be light and comfortable to wear.

  Tips:

  • Super natural bride- very soft on eyes and lips, no eyeliner, soft peachy tones, soft natural lips
  • Pretty natural bride- still soft on eyes with touch of eyeliner along top and half underneath.  Lips soft & shimmery.
  • Pretty bride- stronger eyes, darker socket line eye shadow, shimmery eyelid, pink shimmery lips
  • Glamorous bride- darker eyes lined inside and out, stronger eye shadow, rosy lips and blusher
  • Sultry bride- add dark smokey eye shadow to the full eyelid for a full sulty, smokey eye.

1. Know the essential makeup tools

This is important if you’re the one who’s going to do the makeup for yourself, make sure that you have everything you need from brushes, eyelash curler, foundation, eyeliner, lipstick, and other makeup tools. If you are hiring a makeup artist to do the job, I would advise you to book three months before the day of the wedding. Also, if you are doing the makeup yourself and you have the essential tools with you, make sure that you know how to use them so you don’t look like a clown.

2. Be familiar with your skin type

Not all makeup suits your skin with most divided into either oily, dry or combination products. Therefore see to it that you test each makeup before using or buying any. It’s necessary that you know your skin type so you’d know what makeup to use.

3. Test all colour choices before the wedding

Always have a makeup trial before the date in order to test out any colour choices to see how they will look with the rest of your face and hair.

Top Six Beauty Trends for Summer

from front row at New York Fashion Week we bring you the top six beauty trends for summer.

We may be a season behind, but beauty mavens can still indulge in the latest beauty looks from the catwalks of New York City. Playful pastels, orange bronzer and bare skin are perfectly suited to summer down under, and trends to try right now.

PINK FOR LIPS

Forget orange lipstick, be pretty in pink like Voguecovergirl Arizona Muse. For evening, try a light pink shade à la Zac Posen, or be bold and glossy like the models at Y-3.

ORANGE IS THE NEW BRONZER

Forget about classic brown bronzer, this spring/summer a sun-kissed look verges on a little too much sun. Orange blush was seen on a least eight New York runways, with Preen placing colour on the apples of the cheeks and Band Of Outsiders going all out and sweeping orange across the cheeks and bridge of the nose.

WHITE EYESHADOW

Bright eyes be gone! This season lids were painted white. There was a burst of snowy eyeshadow at Tibi, a slathering of shimmer at Alexandre Herchovitch and some quick flicks at Doo.Ri and Ports 1961. Vogue loves Illamasqua’s Pure Pigment in Beguile applied with a Fluff Brush for a bright, metallic stare.

BARE SKIN TREND

By far the biggest beauty trend of New York Fashion Week was bare, matte skin. Keep your make-up routine simple this summer and simply slick on a touch of Dior’s Diorskin Forever Compact foundation for a long-lasting, velvety, matte finish.

MASCARA-FREE ZONE

Lashes get a break this summer, with the focus on lips and cheeks. We’re loving the mascara-free looks at Donna Karan and Michael Kors for hot summer nights.

NINETIES STYLE

It looks like the 1990s are here to stay. From the the club kids at Rag&bone and Doc Martans all over the streets, there’s no escaping the decade of bubblegum pop and garage grunge. We’re loving the subtle beauty take on the era, as seen on five of the top NYFW runways. Black eyeliner was drawn on the inner rims of the eyes for an eye-popping effect. Simply line with a black pencil, add a hint of mascara and you’re ready to go.

Sass and Bide Hit London fashion week

despite a nerve-racking start, Sass & Bide light up the first day of London Fashion Week with a summer collection as bright as it is bold.

Only minutes before Sass & Bide sent their spring/summer 12 collection down the runway at London Fashion Week, designer Sarah-Jane Clarke was suffering one of the worst meltdowns of her career.

“It’s the first time I’ve cried before a show,” she admitted backstage when three of the label’s 26 exits came close to being cut from the line-up because models failed to turn up until right before the 4pm start time.

Post-show it was all smiles, as Sass & Bide presented another season’s mash up of colour, texture, and proportion. Panels of tightly embroidered silver sequins spliced with watermelon silk and navy and white batik polka dots in grown-up silhouettes signalled a fresh, streamlined sophistication for the high-profile label, which has built a reputation on bowerbird styling and a more is more approach.

A simple cream silk chiffon dress with splits sliced front, back and sides to allow the fabric to float around the legs was positively minimalist, as was a sheer saffron blouse with only the floor-trailing hem at the back belying the creators’ penchant for drama. “We had a bit of a departure from tribal this season,” explains Heidi Middleton. “We really had fun with opposing forces.”

Indeed, reference points vacillated wildly between the label’s signature artisanal aesthetic and body-conscious athleticism, with Aztec-style embellishment and neon-dipped primitive jewels sitting alongside scuba-like materials. The juxtaposition felt new, the pieces light and modern compared to the black taffeta and gold vinyl creations and sculptural mini dresses that emerged later in the show.

Despite the upheaval the brand has been experiencing with their landmark $42.25 million sale to Myer earlier this year, or perhaps because of it, the Sass & Bide team seem to be on top of their game.

Especially if their celebrity following is anything to go by: Poppy Delevingne and Peaches Geldoff perched front row, while a panting Julia Restoin-Roitfeld waited behind the scenes to see the clothes after missing the start of the show.

In true down under, down to earth-style, the pair are taking the success – and stress – of it all in their stride: “Everything just feels pretty much business as usual!” says Middleton.

Spending less time Shopping for Clothes

Some times as women, we feel that we never have anything to wear (regardless of what we have in the wardrobe) and always feel the need to go shopping. Not only is this bad for our wallets but we’re missing out on life. We often spend so much time shopping and are then left with nothing else to do and nothing left to spend. Today I’ll be sharing a few tips on how to spend less time shopping for clothes and leaving more time for the better things in life.

Buy in bulk
When you do go out shopping, buy in bulk. It’s so much better if you do it all at once and don’t need to worry about being behind in trends. Personally, this is a great technique for me because I don’t have to worry about being ‘so last season’.

Longer lasting
Next, buy clothes that are going to last you for a long time, this will save alot of time for other things in the future. The best places to get clothes that will last the seasons are usually K-mart, Target and Big W. I know you younger ladies would rather shop at Valley Girl and City Beach, but what good will it do in a few months time?

I also have a few tips for the next time you make your trip to the local mall.

Know what you want
Don’t impulse buy! This needs to be the first rule when you’re in a shop. If it helps, draw up a list of things you know you want and keep to it. If you step outside the boundaries you’ll run out of money and go home with a bunch of things you’ll never wear except to bed. If you’re only going to one shop, skip this step.

Dress appropriately
Wear easy slip on and off clothes. This will save you alot of time, seriously. Try to avoid clothes that are in alot of layers, have buttons, straps or hooks. Also, keep it completely casual and don’t wear bikini underwear unless you’re looking for cover ups. If you know what you want, wear clothes that are going to suit it, like your favourite pants if you’re looking for a top, or vice versa.

Lastly, shop when you’re most relaxed

Don’t go shopping when you’re hungry, thirsty, tired or need to go to the bathroom. This will cause you to make quick on the spot decisions and you’ll regret it quicker than how long it took you to buy it. Shopping should be the least stressful so go when you’re at your best.

Hope I helped you guys with your next buy and keep these tips in mind next time you’re out, to maximise your shopping experience so it’s not the end of the world and you won’t have to go as often if you genuinely make good decisions with what you buy!
